November 2, 2026. Palantir reported third-quarter revenue of $2.313 billion, up about 96% from a year earlier. The most consequential shift may be inside the U.S. business: commercial revenue of $984 million exceeded government revenue of $953 million for the first time. That is a milestone for a company long associated with defense and public-sector analytics.

Why the revenue mix matters

U.S. commercial sales grew 148% year over year, while U.S. government revenue rose 96%, according to the company’s Q3 2026 investor presentation. A business once seen primarily through government procurement is increasingly selling AI-enabled data tools to companies. The crossover is for the U.S. segments, not a claim that all worldwide commercial revenue now exceeds all government revenue.

The company reported GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders of about $1.13 billion and diluted GAAP earnings per share of $0.44. Its presentation also listed adjusted operating income of about $1.43 billion, a non-GAAP measure that should not be confused with statutory operating profit.

Guidance rises, but expectations rise too

Palantir now forecasts fourth-quarter revenue between $2.649 billion and $2.653 billion, and full-year 2026 revenue between $8.530 billion and $8.534 billion. These are management forecasts, not achieved results. Reuters reported that the quarter exceeded analysts’ consensus revenue estimate of about $2.18 billion, yet the shares moved only modestly in volatile after-hours trading.

That contrast is important. Fast sales growth does not automatically make an investment inexpensive. Investors must weigh the price they pay today against the durability of customer spending, future competition and the cost of deploying AI tools at scale.

What to watch next

Three questions will help determine whether the latest numbers signal a durable change: whether commercial customers expand from initial deployments into recurring, company-wide use; whether bookings convert into recognized revenue; and whether margins remain strong as the business scales. Palantir reported 165% net dollar retention, a company-defined measure of spending from an existing customer cohort, but retention does not eliminate valuation or execution risk.
