ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — October 27, 2026. The Milwaukee Brewers are one win from the franchise’s first World Series championship after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 10–1 in Game 3 on Monday night, October 26. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 3–0, with Game 4 scheduled for Tuesday in St. Petersburg.

The score suggests a runaway from the opening pitch. The more revealing story is how a disputed second-base call, a successful replay challenge and a sequence of disciplined two-out at-bats transformed a manageable 2–0 lead into a ten-run advantage.

The replay that changed the fifth inning

Milwaukee had already scored twice in the third inning. In the fifth, Tampa Bay appeared to have secured the final out on a force play at second base. Replay review overturned the call, extending the inning with the bases loaded. The Rays changed pitchers, but the Brewers kept the pressure on.

Brice Turang’s two-run single began the decisive surge. Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton and Jackson Chourio also delivered run-scoring hits as Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs. The Brewers produced seven consecutive two-out hits in the inning — a postseason record according to the Associated Press game report.

The distinction matters: replay did not award Milwaukee any runs. It preserved an opportunity. The Brewers converted that extra out into a remarkable series of productive plate appearances. Tampa Bay’s bullpen then had to pitch under sustained pressure, and the inning quickly escaped its control.

Chourio’s bat and Gasser’s efficiency

Jackson Chourio went 4-for-5, including a double, while William Contreras and Turang each collected three hits. Milwaukee finished with 16 hits and did not need a home-run barrage to break the game open.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser was just as influential. He allowed one hit and no runs over six innings, facing the minimum 18 batters thanks to outs on the bases. His efficiency kept Tampa Bay from mounting a response while Milwaukee’s offense built its lead. Yandy Díaz drove in the Rays’ only run in the ninth.

What the 3–0 lead means

Milwaukee now needs one more victory to secure its first World Series title. The Rays must win four consecutive games to reverse the series, an exceptionally difficult task. That mathematical position should not be mistaken for a completed championship: Game 4 has not yet been played at the time of this report.

The contrast between Games 1 and 2, decided by a combined two runs, and Game 3’s nine-run margin also offers a lesson in postseason volatility. A single overturned call did not determine the outcome by itself; Milwaukee’s ability to string together two-out contact and Gasser’s command made the difference.
