Brewers Erase 4–0 Deficit to Beat Rays 5–4, Take 2–0 World Series Lead
· News Team
Final · World Series Game 2 · Saturday, October 24, 2026 · American Family Field, Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Brewers turned a four-run first-inning deficit into a 5–4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, taking a 2–0 lead in the best-of-seven World Series. This article updates our earlier Game 2 preview after the final result was confirmed.
What looked like an early Tampa Bay statement became a demonstration of Milwaukee’s resilience. The Rays scored four runs in the opening inning, including a two-run home run by Liam Hicks, but the Brewers answered immediately and kept reducing the deficit before taking the lead for good in the seventh.
How Milwaukee completed the comeback
Tampa Bay struck first against rookie starter Logan Henderson. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero drove in runs with singles, and Hicks’ homer made it 4–0. Milwaukee answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on run-scoring singles by William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell. An error helped the Brewers close to 4–3 in the fourth.
Sal Frelick then drove a solo home run to center in the sixth to tie the score 4–4. In the seventh, Brice Turang doubled and moved to third on a flyout before Cooper Pratt singled home the go-ahead run. The moment was especially significant for Pratt: his throwing error had helped Tampa Bay’s first-inning rally.
Milwaukee’s relievers protected the comeback with six scoreless innings. The finish was tense: Jonny DeLuca reached third in the ninth, but Aaron Ashby struck out Yandy Díaz to end the game and record the save. Tampa Bay left the potential tying run at third in the ninth for the second consecutive night.
Why this changes the World Series
The result is more consequential than an ordinary one-run win. Tampa Bay generated an ideal early start yet failed to add to its four-run total. Milwaukee’s bullpen bought time for the offense to respond, and two players central to the comeback—Frelick and Pratt—supplied the decisive late hits. That combination gives the Brewers a two-game cushion as the series shifts to Florida, although the championship is not settled.
Next: Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, October 26, in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Brewers lead the series 2–0 after games played October 23 and 24.
