Indiana Ends 59-Year Big House Drought: Hoover’s OT Run Seals 13–6 Win at Michigan
· News Team
ANN ARBOR, Michigan — October 24, 2026. No. 6 Indiana won at Michigan Stadium for the first time since 1967, defeating Michigan 13–6 in overtime after quarterback Josh Hoover ran four yards for the game’s only touchdown. The result was final Saturday afternoon, according to Michigan’s official athletics recap and Associated Press reporting carried by CBS Detroit.
How the overtime finish unfolded
Michigan’s Trey Butkowski kicked a 26-yard field goal as regulation expired to tie the game at 6–6. Indiana needed just two offensive snaps in overtime: Hoover connected with Brock Schott for 21 yards, then kept the ball for a four-yard touchdown. Michigan advanced to Indiana’s 13-yard line on its possession, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete, ending the game.
The Wolverines started true freshman Tommy Carr at quarterback. Carr completed 20 of 32 passes for 167 yards, but Michigan scored just six points from four trips inside the red zone. Indiana held the home side out of the end zone despite its own offensive struggles.
Why this matters beyond the scoreboard
Indiana’s offense managed only 212 total yards, including 81 passing yards from Hoover, according to Michigan’s official statistics. That makes the win an especially revealing test of the Hoosiers’ resilience: the decisive play was not an explosive passing performance but a short overtime sequence after a defense-led stalemate. Indiana moved to 7–1 overall and 4–1 in Big Ten play; Michigan fell to 4–3 and 1–3.
For Michigan, the concern is not simply a home defeat. Repeated opportunities near the goal line produced field goals rather than touchdowns, and the offense could not answer after Indiana scored in overtime. For Indiana, a difficult afternoon for its passing attack still ended with a historically rare road victory — its first in Ann Arbor in 59 years.
What comes next
Indiana is scheduled to host Minnesota on October 31, while Michigan travels to Rutgers. Both teams will be looking for greater offensive consistency after a game defined by defensive resistance and missed scoring opportunities.

[…] The win does not erase Minnesota’s offensive limitations, but it shows how field position, takeaways and a single high-leverage completion can overcome a yardage deficit.
