**Lufthansa Group reported record quarterly revenue on November 3, 2026, but rising
fuel expenses prompted a narrower full-year profit outlook.** The airline group
said third-quarter revenue increased 9% to €12.2 billion and adjusted operating
profit (EBIT) rose 6% to approximately €1.4 billion, despite €543 million in additional
fuel costs compared with the year-earlier period.

## Why the profit forecast changed

Lufthansa now expects adjusted EBIT of €1.7 billion to €2.0 billion for 2026, narrowing
the previous €1.7 billion to €2.2 billion range. This is a reduction to the upper
end of its guidance, _not_ a forecast of an annual loss. Management estimates its
annual fuel bill at €9.3 billion. It says hedging covers about 86% of its passenger-
airline fuel needs for 2026, but hedges cannot eliminate every price or operating
risk.

## Demand remains resilient, especially for premium travel

Network-airline seat capacity increased 1.6% year on year during the quarter, while
average yields rose 6.8%. The group says demand from premium passengers and routes
serving Asia and North America supported the result. Stronger pricing and cost discipline
helped offset the fuel shock, although this does not guarantee that airfares will
keep rising or that every route will be profitable.

## Cargo and maintenance provide a buffer

Lufthansa Cargo reported €162 million in adjusted EBIT, while Lufthansa Technik
generated €200 million. These businesses provide earnings beyond passenger tickets,
but cargo profitability in the fourth quarter remains one of the factors that management
says will determine where the group lands within its revised full-year range.

## What travelers and investors should watch

For passengers, higher fuel expenses can create pressure on ticket prices, but actual
fares also depend on route competition, demand and available seats. Investors will
be watching fourth-quarter bookings, cargo earnings and the group’s ability to control
non-fuel costs. The central tension is clear: Lufthansa is selling more and earning
more from operations, yet its annual profit ceiling has come down because of the
fuel environment.
