**October 29, 2026 —** Intel reported a 21% year-on-year increase in third-quarter
revenue to $16.5 billion, but its outlook for the final three months of 2026 exposed
a more complicated recovery. The company expects $15 billion to $16 billion in fourth-
quarter sales, below the $17.07 billion analyst average cited by Reuters. That gap
matters because demand for data-center processors is growing even as manufacturing
interruptions and a weaker personal-computer market constrain what Intel can deliver.

## The headline numbers — and the warning inside them

Intel’s October 29 results show third-quarter earnings per share of $0.60 under
generally accepted accounting principles and $0.52 on a non-GAAP basis. Its forecast
for the fourth quarter is $0.10 GAAP earnings per share and $0.25 adjusted. The
distinction between reported and adjusted earnings matters: the two measures are
not interchangeable, and neither by itself establishes the company’s future cash-
generation capacity.

Revenue growth was real. Yet the direction of guidance is a reminder that strong
demand for some chips does not guarantee equally strong results across a company
serving different markets. Intel’s data-center and AI unit benefited from demand
for server processors, while its PC-focused business faced softer demand and higher
memory costs.

## Three pressures on the turnaround

**First, production capacity.** Intel is trying to expand output for server customers
while investing heavily in new manufacturing capabilities. When demand exceeds usable
supply, orders do not automatically become recognized revenue. Capacity expansion
also consumes cash before all its potential benefits are realized.

**Second, the PC market.** Management expects the slowdown to persist at least through
the first half of 2027. Rising memory costs can make complete PCs more expensive,
affecting consumer and business purchases even when processor technology improves.
The company said its third-quarter PC-chip revenue fell 5% to about $8.1 billion.

**Third, a plant disruption.** Reuters reported that an October explosion at Intel’s
Kiryat Gat, Israel, facility interrupted production. Intel’s finance chief estimated
roughly $600 million in lost revenue across two quarters, with approximately $300
million affecting the fourth-quarter outlook. Those figures are management estimates,
not a completed accounting of the incident’s ultimate impact. Local reports cited
by Reuters said two people died and another was seriously injured; the human consequences
should not be reduced to a financial line item.

## Why the AI boom creates a paradox

AI infrastructure needs more than the high-profile accelerators that train large
models. Server CPUs, networking, memory, packaging and dependable manufacturing
all matter. That creates an opportunity for Intel’s Xeon processors. It also exposes
the company to bottlenecks in adjacent components and its own factories.

The strategic test is therefore not simply whether AI-related orders rise. It is
whether Intel can translate that demand into timely shipments, sustainable margins
and cash flow while financing its manufacturing roadmap. Reuters reported that Intel
does not expect positive cash flow in 2026 and plans around $20 billion in capital
spending this year. Investors will need to watch supply recovery and spending discipline
together rather than treating a single strong quarter as proof that the turnaround
is complete.

## What to watch next

Three indicators deserve attention in upcoming disclosures: whether the Israel facility
returns to production on the indicated timetable; whether PC demand stabilizes as
component prices change; and whether data-center growth can support improving cash
flow after heavy capital expenditure. The company’s fourth-quarter forecast is forward-
looking and may change with manufacturing conditions and customer demand.
